I decided to make this thread so we can have a discussion about how Umi Galaxy is supported.
The idea behind the Supporter Tier is that, if the website grows, at some point we'll need to make some money to cover the server costs. And if it gets really huge, there will be even more costs beyond just the servers.
Right now, the servers are cheap and more than enough for the current traffic, so I'm taking this opportunity to give the Supporter Tier for free to people who register an account.
What do you think the Supporter Tier should have?
Right now, the Supporter Tier provides boosts for Clan and Alliance threads. Since everyone can create a Clan or Alliance, there needs to be something to prevent usage from getting out of control. We can't have an infinite number of threads with millions of media files without eventually paying for all that storage.
At the moment, Clan and Alliance threads have very little usage, so I was thinking about extending the Supporter Tier perks to regular threads on the normal imageboard as well.
What do you think? What kind of perks would you like to see in the Supporter Tier?

I've decided to make this thread to discuss what I've learned while trying to promote Umi Galaxy.
So far, I've noticed that visibility and clicks are important, but there's also a need to reach the right audience.
For example, yesterday I made a post on Reddit promoting the website on /r/webdev. The post got around 92k views and 200 likes, which translated into 200+ visitors to the website.
That looks pretty good, but none of those visitors actually engaged with the website in a meaningful way. Nobody posted on the imageboard, and nobody created an account.

During a conversation with @webpgoy we cooked up an idea for an image tab in the settings. Right now all the static image options from our image processor sharp are available for testing.
I already noticed setting the effort to 6 increases the processing time by a ridiculous amount so maybe that should be capped to a lower value.
The idea right now is to test what makes sense, right now when you create a new preset it uses the default values so we can even double check if the default values make sense, for example a 800kb jpg is turning into a 1.5mb webp, which seems counterintuitive.
ps: animated webps and gifs are left alone, these settings don't apply to them
