I've heard of people having success with Pi-hole ad blocking but the fact that you need to hack your own internet to use modern TVs without getting hit with ads still feels like a nightmare.

I'd disable updates entirely on that thing tbh. It wouldn't surprise me if they sent convenient updates that made the thing run slower so you'll buy another one (and the same thing will happen to that one too).

I think my biggest mistake was allowing it to connect to the internet at all. Maybe I'll just remove that, I only use it as a monitor anyway

Had this happen with a Roku TV I used just for HDMI. Started off fine, but after like 2 years, just loading the home screen (which was where you selected HDMI) brought the system to its knees while it loaded up the ads for shows on Netflix I'd never watch. Smart TVs were a mistake.

It's sadly becoming inevitable that if you want a brand new computer that doesn't run like dogshit you have to bend the knee to Apple.
I really hope that Valve can become a good alternative soon because otherwise the future is soldered SSD, RAM, keyboard, etc.

A couple years ago, I finished using my Samsung A8 smartphone. It was terrific, and it even has a better screen than Google pixels. I missed that fucking thing, but it got water damaged

Why did you update the firmware in the first place? I use an LG C4 and it's not even connected to the internet, literally turns on to the HDMI input like a monitor.

It auto updates and I connected it for netflix or something. A couple months ago I disconnected and it's much better now
