I can never get the hang with books tbh, they bore me too quickly. When I got really into it what I found kinda helped me keep focus is take quick N5 practice tests, see where I failed the most, and look up that particular grammar point on a youtube video.

Yes, I did 4 semesters of Japanese using Genki in college, then a few years later did immersion and anki with /jp/djt. I haven't seriously practiced since 2019. If your main goal is reading visual novels and watching anime, it's pretty attainable. You eventually might start grappling with the amount of time you're spending learning a language solely to watch cartoons that are already translated, though.

No thanks. I'll stick with English + French. Wielding these two languages will give me access to almost everything.
