@void how much free speech are you willing to permit regarding the use of profanity and racial slurs outside of clear racism?
On 4chan we usually got to go wild even outside of /pol/ and when you went full hitler you usually got a warning before a ban.
Obviously letting your site turning into stormfront 2.0 like 4chan isn't smart, it drives users away and destroys discussions.
Yet at the same time completely sterilizing everything defeats the purpose of anonymous posting here I think.
Also "tripfags" like myself should be held to higher scrutiny though since we can act as ambassadors for umigalaxy, right?
I'm asking because of the 4chan mod grapeape macking a mockery of 4chan just by posting the dumbest stuff on twitter lol.
Like I wonder if you should make different, more strict rules for registered users and relax them a bit for anonymous ones.
I'd be cool with that tbh. But if I made questionable statement (as anonymous while logged in) could the less strict rules apply?

That's an interesting discussion, I like free speech I really wish we could just deal with these things internally, simply banning annoying people, but unfortunately we need to worry about deplatforming and even legal issues.
Apparently kiwi-farms was deplatformed by cloudflare so they're wide open for ddos attacks. I was never interested in their content, but it's telling how nowadays even if you host your own website, you still rely on 3rd parties to keep it online.
And then there are the legal issues, 4chan recently faced them with the british government, but 4chan is a large website and they have lawyers and even public opinion sway so they can deal with it, smaller websites can't afford that.
Anyway, right now I'm just rambling with no decision on anything, but it's good to open this discussion
About anon vs registered users, in the end the website is on the hook either way to be deplatformed either way.
Like I said before, I don't really care that much if people act a bit dumb, I just don't want to be kicked out of cloudflare.

It would be somehwhat annoying, not just for users but for you as well since you'd have to account for filter bypass methods. Anyway if you're gonna do word substitution, I'd double down instead and replace certain radioactive slurs with other confusing slurs.
Like "n*ggef" with peckerwood. Nobody really uses the latter and they'll probably assume it's a bird. Maybe this could function better as discouragement since it might create emberassment.
However if a certain profanity/racial slur isn't too radioactive, I think that should be left alone. Like "retarded mongoloid" doesn't really have a specific race so it's hard commit actual racism with it.

I think the word filter should be done to excessively spammed words or phrases. Eg how soy wpuld be changed to based on 4chan.

I investigated kiwifarms because all I heard was that they kept hosting the christchurch shooting video.
After a few youtube videos what I can gather is they're a mixed bag of vigilantes and trolls who go too far.
They're blamed for IRL suicides and swatting, probably why cloudflare ultimately dropped them.
I kinda respect them but causing people to take their own lives is a stain that never washes off IMHO.

Any place that isn't behind cloudflare seems like it will be a ripe target for CP bots.

I think a good aspect of a smaller website is that things can be moderated more easily, I pretty much read everything that is posted here and it's not like it can slip by
